We're on a boat!

Image
When a wonderful friend invites you for spiedies and a boat tour of the pond, you say yes please! And Cormac says “Faster please, Miss Robin! Let’s do the bumps!” What a special day. Cormac’s first boat ride!

Toddlers and vikings

I’ve never met a Viking before, but from what I’ve learned, toddler eating habits seem similar.  There is shouting at the wench (mom), burping, throwing of napkins on the ground, loud and abrasive songs of victory, wiping hands on dogs as they run by, and enthusiastic beverage chugging along with general savagery.  It’s like history is coming alive. In my dining room. Every night.

Where's Olaf?

We have watched Frozen II about eleventy-billion times so this week we decided to watch the original spread out over a few days. Night one: roll opening credits.  Mac: (angry) Where’s Olaf, dammit?!

Crazy

Mac (to Miah): Do you think I’m crazy? Miah: I don’t think you’re crazy.  Mac: I AM crazy.  Well, there you have it, folks.

Dinos and dragons

Mac: Mom! Please get my Dino costume for me? Me: 🧐 Took a second but I figured it out. Dinos. Dragons. It’s all good.  Also, should YOU want to play Dino, the correct way is to “RAWR” at each other and pretend to poop on the lawn. Then you instruct your mom to “Please pick that up for me? That’s a BIG Dino poop!”

Days of the week

We’ve been talking a lot about the days of the week.  Mac: Today is Tuesday. No school.  Miah: Today is Tuesday. We do have school. But sometimes we have vacation and don’t go.  Mac: And sometimes there’s no power. No school.  🤦‍♀️ That happened once ever. Like six months ago. The “not go to school” gene is strong with this one.

The new guy

Day one in a new classroom. I guessed he would either go on a fifteen minute rant OR just ask for a specific song and sing the whole way home.  He chose the latter.  Me: How did your day as an Oak go?  Mac: (chugs his ice water) Mom, I NEED Sh-Boom by the Chords.  He sang that and then “1,000 Times” by Hamilton Leithauser and Rostam all the way home. And finally.  Me: So how was your first day? Mac: Good. I’m the NEW guy.

Scarlet Oaks

Today, Mac starts in his new class as a Scarlet Oak. He enjoyed his graduation dinner on Friday and was ready to roll this morning. He told me “I’m so excited to be with the big kids“ and “I won’t cry, mom”. I said, “Well, you can certainly cry if you feel like it!” He looked very thoughtful and said, “Well, I don’t want to! I’m a big man now.”  Sniff. He’ll probably cry, but I know he will tell us all about it this afternoon. ❤️ Good luck, buddy. So big.

Going electric with earwigs

These come in electric?!?! Someone is thrilled. It isn’t me. 😂🤣😍 “Dad... it’s not your guitar. It’s mine” Also. Per Cormac. “Earwigs are contagious”. I don’t know where he gets his facts.

Candyland fail

At dinner: Mac: what do we do next? Me: We could play Candyland after dinner.  Mac: Yay! Me: it’s a game and there are rules so you need to be in the mood for it.  Mac: We could STAND on it.  Miah: you have already failed Candyland.
